25/4/6 Rosie sounded in good spirits when I spoke
to her yesterday, the makeshift buggy is working well and she is making
good progress. It was the London Marathon on Sunday and she wanted
me to pass on her "Many, many congratulations to my running club TROT, St Clears for outstanding success in the Welsh 5k Championships and London Marathon".
Regards James.
21/4/6 Hi, have just had a long chat with Rosie earlier
today. She is just about to set off from Manley Hot Springs a
small village where she has been staying at for the last few days.
Manley Hot Springs is a small village of around fifty people.
Everyone has been extremely friendly and kind to Rosie, Earlier in
the day Rosie had given a talk at the local school, that she
enjoyed very much. Rosie has been staying with a lovely couple
called Carole and Bunny. she would like to thank them for their
hospitality and help with her equipment. Now Rosie is on the road
networks, the sled 'Sprit of America' is no longer suitable. It
has been a wonderful aid to her and it is being sent back to its owner
Denis Douglas with thanks.
Bunny who is bit of a craftsman and made an
amazing new buggy for Rosie called 'Bunny's Buggy' this is absolutely
fantastic particularly with Rosie's broken rib, and keeps her from
having to have all her equipment in a rucksack. It is a bit like a
rickshaw that attaches to her waist. Rosie says it is really great
and easy to travel with, thanks for that Bunny.
Regarding the rib, it is broken but it is not in a
particularly bad place she is taking it easy and can walk
okay. She says her Terra Nova tent is very good and it is less
painful to her rib than sleeping the the sled was. She
is about 160 miles from Fairbanks
Regards James.
16/4/06 Happy Easter everyone. Rosie is okay
but she has had a bad slip on the ice and fell heavily and thinks she
has cracked her rib. She is not one to complain but I can tell she
is a bit demoralized about it. She can travel on okay, but it is
very painful when she is lying down to sleep.
When we spoke last night she was only a few miles
from the start of the road networks and seventeen miles form the next
village, where she will get her rib looked at and I shall be able to
tell you more. She was more annoyed with herself than anything else
and described it at it as nothing more that an inconvenience, though she
said thought it was broken because she could feel it moving about.
There is nothing much that can be done about it unfortunately, thankful
she is still about to travel okay at least for the moment..
Rosie also wanted me to say how sorry she was to
here about the difficulties Karl Bushby and Dimitry Kieffer have had
with the authorities after there recent crossing of the Bering sea.
And finally here are some great photos that I have
recently been sent by Steve Seaton from Runners World magazine who when
out to visit Rosie a month or so ago, while she was passing though
Nulato. All images are copyrighted to him.
Many thanks Steven.
Regard James
8/4/06 Hi, I have some more detailed
information kindly sent to me by Bob Collins recently. As many
people following the website will know, Bob is a good friend of Rosie and
is monitoring her progress closely for safety reasons. Had a brief chat
with Rosie herself and she says she is making good progress, said she
managed 25miles in her first day back out on the trail.
This is from Bob.
Hello James: Rosie asked me to send you her progress report: On 4 Apr 06, she returned to Henry Island via snow machine (snowmobile). She was taken about a mile beyond the point from which she had been taken by the Alaska National Guard Rescue team. On 4 Apr 06, she resumed the trail from N65.00.86 W 154.02.62. Later on 4 Apr, she camped at N65.02.53 W 153.53.67. On 6 Apr, she camped at N65.07.16 W 153.34.55. At present, the trail is better at night due to the colder temperatures. She is moving by the light of the Aurora Borealis.
She also asked that you post her congratulations to Karl Bushby (and Dimitry Kieffer) on their successful crossing of the Bering Sea. They made the 58 mile crossing from Wales, Alaska to Chukotka Province by using a satellite phone to communicate with Bushby's father back in England. The elder Bushby would log onto the Internet to examine satellite photos to help the team chart the best course across the sea ice. Rosie extends a hearty well-done! Bob
06/04/06 Hi have just been sent these
wonderful photos by Colleen Peterson, I would like to thank her, Dale
and Linda Conover who became great friends with Rosie.
Hi James, my name is Colleen Peterson and I met Rosie through a mutual friend. He thought we had a lot in common...I run marathons......she runs around the world..... A few thousand miles separates our running capabilities. However, I really enjoyed the time I spent with her. My neighbors, Dale and Linda Conover invited Rosie and I to dinner one evening, where their daughter Katie Conover (a world traveler herself) asked Rosie if she would come and talk to the children where she teaches.
These photo's were taken at Meadow lakes Elementary school which is about 5 miles North of Wasilla, Ak, off the Parks Hwy. After the children filed into the gymnasium and sat down, not a sound was heard from them as Rosie cast her spill. Those children will remember her and her sled for along time to come. Rosie picked out the photo's she wanted me to send to you. So here they are.

3/04/06Hi everyone, I have been having bit of a
break, while Rosie was resting up. I am glad to report that
she has set off on the 2nd of April on a commercial flight to Fairbanks
to travel on to the exact spot she was rescued by the National Guard to continue
her world run.
She has had a great stay in Bob Collins cabin and
has been getting some writing done. She has written an article for
Runners World magazine who have been a major supporter to Rosie's world
run. The article will be in the June addition which comes out in
May, I have seen some snippets and it is a really fascinating read, I am
looking forward to reading the whole thing myself when it comes out.
Regarding her frost bitten toe, the new skin that
has grown back is still quite tender but she said that she has twelve
pair of socks and giant boots that will keep her feet warm.
Thanks everyone who has left messages on the guest
books Rosie is very grateful for all the kind messages of support she
has received.
Life would be too easy if everything was running smoothly
on the computer front the latest challenge is my broadband provider
E7even.com I have had terrible service for months, basically it is
impossible to log on at the weekends or after 5pm, which is a right nuisance.
I have paid two years upfront as well so have to stick with them,
But I plan to set trading standards on them.
Enough of my problems, if anyone has any recent
photos of Rosie they would be gratefully received as
ever. Regards James Swale
