24th of October, received a message from
Rosie on my answer phone, the marathon went very well and she did in a
time of 4 hours and 40 minutes by her own stop watch, her official time
will be plus or minus a minute of this time but he has not had
confirmation yet. He said she really enjoy it and managed it a lot
faster than she expected.
21st of October. Hi everyone, Rosie
is doing great and is in Chicago getting ready for the marathon
tomorrow, it has been quite a change of pace from her recent months
running along the wild expanses of Alaska and Canada. She is staying
with Nancy and Victor Rodriquez, Nancy is Bob Collins sister, and as
many who followed this site will know what a great friend and help Bob
has been to Rosie during the toughest parts of her run through the
extreme whether of Alaska.
I have just spoken to Rosie who had just
boosted her energy reserves for tomorrow with a large amount of pasta,
she is in great spirit and looking forward to the marathon tomorrow.
There has been some very generous donations to the charities Rosie is
supporting particularly, The Kitezh Community for Orphan Children and
The Hole in the Wall Gang. These are both truly wonderful
charities doing inspiring work.
This is a message from Rosie, hope to
have a bit more detailed news soon. Apologies once more for the lack of
reply to e-mails Regards James(Jim)
Dear Jim,
It was really great to talk to you.
'I shall be standing on the start line of
the
Marathon tomorrow - thinking of every single one
of my
supporters who have done so much for me.
Thank you all so much. You'll ALL be with
me in
spirit.'

13th of Oct 2006 Hi everyone, had a long
chat with Rosie last night, she has been racing towards Edmondton where
she is going to fly to Chicago for marathon. The cost of her ticket was
kindly donated by the Fort St John and Dawson Creek Chamber Of Commerce.
She asked me to thank them very much. The price of the ticket was just
under 800 dollars and was very generous indeed. She asked me also to
thank Sam and Fatima Mangalji who run Day's Inn. Also Faramo, (I hope I
have the names right).
Rosie is in good health I'm glad to
report, she is finding things a little bit stressful as she is trying to
sort of a lot of things out by phone but always seems to come to a phone
when everyone else is asleep, particularly hard when she is trying to
contact the UK. She has had a a lot of help though an wanted to thank
particularly Stephen Seaton From Runners World Magazine, who have helped
organise her entry into the Chicago marathon and all the other help he
has given throughout her run. She also wants to thank Ann, Geoff, Bob
Eve, and and the Many Other equipment suppliers, supporters and helpers
back home. As well as all those who have offered her such kindness and
hospitality during her run.
I get the sense that Rosie is really
looking forward to the Chicago marathon, as well as raising the profile
of the charities she is supporting the get feeling it will also be bit
of a celebration and perhaps chance to meet up with a few old friends on
the marathon circuit.
Regards James.
Received this from my sister Eve today, many thanks.
Hi dear brother
I have spoken to Steven Seaton and Mum is definitely entered for the Chicago Marathon which is to be run on the 22nd Oct.
Here is some text for the web
From Eve: I received a text from Mum today to say that she is running as fast as possible towards Edmonton. She is now about
50m out of Edmonton and making approximately 17m a day.
Communication is very hard at the moment as Mum is tired and has been trying to make as good time as possible in order to make it to the marathon. I wonder if anyone has run so hard and fast and under such circumstances just so that they can run in a Marathon!! I did manage to speak to Rosie about 4 or 5 days ago and I joked that I was expecting a good marathon time
from her with all this extra "training". As always she was very modest and said not to expect to much but to emphasise that she wants to do the Chicago Marathon as an additional boost to raise funds for The Prostate Cancer Society and the Kitezh Community and all her other charities. She also welcomes any donations towards her own fighting fund to keep her on the road!
Once again thanks to all those who support her on the road, back at home and with the kindness of their thoughts that follow her along the road.
8th of Oct 2006, Hi everyone, here is a message I received back from Rosie on her birthday on the 2nd of October.

The big news is that Rosie is going to be flying to Chicago, for the Chicago marathon, also there is a possibility that she will be a guest on the
Oprah show.
Thank you all for being so patient, I am having some problems typing which is very frustrating, I have been sent a great many e-mails, I may not be able to reply to many of them at least not immediately.
Also I had a virus in my Outlook Express, please don't worry anyone on the news update list as I have very good virus protection, I wanted to be totally sure I had eliminated it before it could do any harm. It has been completely cleaned off my system before it had a chance to do anything.
However my Outlook Express Is not working at the moment and are not quite sure why. I fear I might have lost e-mails sent after the 26 of September to the 30th of September. I can still read my new e-mails through the Web host programme. But I am unable to send any news update e-mails to anyone on the list at the moment.
Bit by bit I hope to fill in the missing news. When I next speak to Rosie I'll ask for a detailed report from her about her latest news. Regards James.
Happy Birthday Rosie.
2nd of October 2006. Hi everyone,
apologies for a long break in news. I have a problem with my arms called
Repetitive Strain Injury, that I developed some years ago. It had flared
up quite badly and I had to force myself not to use the computer. It has
eased up and now I hope to get things back on track.
I am having some technical problems
Outlook Express which is preventing me from seeing any of my e-mails for
the last two weeks. Please be patient, if you are awaiting the reply,
also there is a lot of news and photos here to go up on the web site
when I get fixed.
I spoke to Rosie yesterday, she is being
very good spirits, she had a lot of interesting news to tell, people
have been very kind and generous to her at Fort St John and Dawson's
Creek. I need to wait until I can get my e-mails so I get all my facts
straight and thank the right people. More news to follow.
Regards James
This was written by my dear sister Eve.
Today is a special day and we would like to wish Rosie a lovely happy birthday today and remind her that she is now entitled to her bus pass her in Great Britain!! All her family, friends, sponsors and supporters wish her to know that we are thinking of her and wishing for her return.
A second reason why this day is so special is that it is the third anniversary of the beginning of this great voyage on foot. Since she started out Rosie has covered countries and continents, negotiating rivers and bears. She has met an extraordinary range of people so many of whom have supported her generously both materially and with the warmth of their kindness.
Of all of Rosie's adventures this is the longest and hardest and I know that the endurance involved has been as much about missing those she cares for and parting so often from new friends as it has been about placing one tired foot in front of the other or breaking the ice on her zip before setting out on a new day!
So James and I would like to take this opportunity to send our love to Rosie and also to all those who by their efforts are helping to bring her back to her home.
Eve and James Swale.

Here are the photos of Rosie at Fort Nelson, apologies for the delay.
3rd of Sep have some great photos of Rosie sent to
me by John Roper, of the Fort Nelson News, that I hope to have up on the
web tomorrow.
2nd of September 2006 Hi had a really nice chat with Rosie last night, she is just leaving Fort
Nelson, She has finally come though the Canadian Rockies which she said was quite
a relief as some of the hills were five miles of incline. She as been extremely
well looked after at Fort Nelson. As you can see from the map she has just
recently entered British Columbia. She is in good spirits, but she
said one of the hardest things was sorting out other things paperwork
and her writing, she said she could use a week just spent in an office
to talk to all the people she wanted to. She is normally
quite tired after her running and normally just wants to cook up some
pasta and sleep.

Here are some more great photos that I have been sent, many thanks
for them as always.
This
is Rosie with Victoria Nelson sent in by her mother when they met Rosie at
Watson Lake

This two Photos where sent in by Mark Stowe, who is also traveling around the
world by motorbike, he remembers talk of Rosie when he drove though Siberia.

The above photos where kindly sent in by Wendy Brant notice the slightly
worried looking Rosie with the Bear in the background, I think they were
both very brave. Rosie and Wendy that is.
Continuing my experiences of when I flew to meet Rosie in
Tok, Alaska, parts 1 and 2

My trip to meet Rosie in Alaska part 3
We were all given a great welcome we had, Dave Stancliff and his band
were playing there regular concert later on at Tok visitors center. And we
were invited to come. The concert of traditional Alaskan music was
wonderful it was full of warmth, humor and really wonderful tunes and very impressive
playing of instruments which included guitars and banjos and mouth organs.
I absolutely loved it. It was the first time that we all could relax after
the stress of the 17hour flight and the rush to meet Rosie for when she arrived
in Tok. And what an introduction to Alaska and Toke.

Abigail filmed
parts of this great concert and Rosie was welcomed by the band and asked to come
up and say a few words. We bought some CDs afterwards and were given several
more. Which ended up being the soundtrack to the rest of our trip in the hire car. We were also presented with some caps which we liked very
much, I am still wearing mine back in England.

Above Rosie being interviewed by Abigail Neil after the concert
As I mentioned we where staying in the Tundra Lodge RV park and campsite, and
we when back there. It is the nicest campsite I have ever been to, it had
loads of trees and was like camping in a forest, Don and Barbara Abbott were lovely
people and up at the office they had a nice bar and and internet felicities,
and they insisted on letting us all stay for free.

campsite. My first morning in Tok.
End of part three. regards James
20th of August. Hi, had a chat with
Rosie last night, She was calling from Muncho Lake, she is fully
in the Northern Rockies and is encountering a lot of hill. She is
very proud of fact she did 21 miles yesterday. Luckily the Roads
are quite good, as she has quite a lot of difficulty pulling 'Silver' up
gravel roads. Silver weighs 240 pounds fully laden and requires
some pulling up hills, the three wheels means that there is less weight
on her shoulders than Hercules. She is getting great help
form Runners World and sends
them a big thank you.
It has been confirmed that Rosie is going
to do the Chicago Marathon in October. Rosie is looking forward to
it very much, as a chance to catch up on old friends and raise the profile
of the Charities she is supporting. And also give her a goal
to aim for as she eats up the miles in the meantime.
14th August 2006 , Hi just got this though from
Rosie.
HI JIM, THANK U 4 LOVELY EMAIL. N59 37.47. W127 05.08. THIS IS
MORE THAN JUST A ROAD- IT IS LIKE A COMMUNITY WITH GREAT PEOPLE.

13th of August, Hi everyone, apologies
for the lack of recent updates, things are starting to get back on
track. Many of the other pages links need updating and I am
working on that.
Rosie is doing very well she is really
getting her head down and making good progress. I have not spoken
to her recently as we have missed each other when she tried to call last
weekend. but have messaged her today for GPS fixes to get some map positions
up. As soon as I hear form here I shall update the
news here as per usual.
regards James
Here are some photos kindly sent in by
Hart Bezner.

These were sent in by Annie, who can be seen
writing in Rosie's book as she was just setting off from Watson Lake.

And below these where sent in by Aubrey Baillie with this
email. Many thanks .
My friend Sean and I met Rosie in Whitehorse on the 16th of July.
We continued to Dawson and then crossed paths with Rosie again on the
highway 5 days later. We got these two pictures of her at the side
of the highway about 100 km east of Whitehorse. She is quite an
amazing person. Please say hello to Rosie for us and wish her luck
on the completion of her journey. She will remember us as the two
guys on a road trip from Whistler British Columbia.
Cheers, Aubrey Baillie

Many thanks to everyone for all the photos, they are greatly appreciated.
Regards James.
