15/3/6 Hi, had a chat with Rosie
yesterday, all is well, she has just bought a giant pair of moon boots
to keep her toes warm, I am not quite sure that this is the
right name for them. It is so important to not let her toes get
cold when they are healing up, and she got in a slight panic when
they started to go very cold on the way to the boot shop. She says
the boots are great and are enabling her to get out about more.
She plans to use these when she resumes her run in a few weeks.
Also I would like to introduce a new
charity that Rosie would like to support, it is the "Hole in the
Wall Gang Camp". Rosie first got to know about them though
the sled that Denis Douglas lent her which is called "The Spirit of
America" , Denis is an adventurer himself and has raised money
for this charity, the logo of the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is was
written on the Sled. Rosie has found out more about them and
really likes the work that they are doing.
This in no way detracts from her support
for The Kitezh Community for Orphan
Children and her friends there, (www.kitezh.org)
and (www.ecologia.org.uk)
who she is behind totally as well as the other fine charities she is
supporting.

11/3/6 Hi everyone, spoke to Rosie yesterday had a
very nice chat, she was slightly in headless chicken mode, as she was just about to
be picked up and whisked off to visit her friend Major Mike Haller from
the National Guard. Everyone has been so kind and hospitable there
are so many people the thank, cheers everyone. I has been a huge
change of pace for Rosie she has been on her own battling along, in
temps down to minus 60, for months.
I don't know what it must be like but it is
probably a very different mental state you go in being that close
to nature for so long. Her toe is doing well but it is going to be
a few week yet till it is healed enough to start her run from where she
left off. She knows that she will have to be particularly careful
as once frostbite has happened it is very prone to happening again in
the same part. And absolutely vital not to get it cold when it is healing
up.
One slight worry that she will become less
able to cope with the rest of her journey if she accepts the many kind
offers of comfy beds preferring instead to sleep in her little tent in
the garden. She has recently been staying with Carolyn and her
sister Shannon, and Charlie Bader who she met when she first
flew into Anchorage.
This photo was taken when in October 2005 That is Charlie on the right
and Carolyn on the
left. Lovely people who really helped Rosie a great deal,
getting her well prepared with local knowledge and equipment for
when she traveled up to Wales the west most tip of Alaska to continue
her world run.
Charlie took some great pictures and videos which
can be found here, they a well worth a look, and the videos are particularly
good. I have linked them before but thought they are well overdue
for a refresh. Video
and picture link can be found here Also you can read
about her early experiences in Anchorage here
in the news archive.
Also I would like to thank a great friend
and long time supporter of Rosie, Catherine Addison who wrote to His
Royal Highness Prince Charles of England, about Rosie's world run,
she received back this letter which she forwarded to me.
Rosie was really delighted when she heard about it and was a big boost
and asked me to pass on her thanks.

5/3/6 Just got this great message from Mum that my
sister Eve has typed up. And some new photos of Rosie below please
see below. I spoke to her yesterday and she is in great sprits and
planning hard for when she restarts he world run.
Every body has been great about the frost bite. It has been frantic here so I am sorry I haven't been in touch. But, the great thing is that I really appreciate all the support I have had. I am fighting back and I am more determined than ever to get back on the trail, nd I am having tremendous help to do so. But as Major
Michael. L Haller put it, even a racing car needs a pit stop now and again, and as someone else said, it is no use telling other people to get the right treatment for things like cancer and not doing the same myself. My toe is leaking liquid now and the very kind doctor said it would be at least 3 weeks. So I will be staying in my Terra Nova tent. I have been offered places to stay in the gardens of many of my friends here, in their homes as well, but I want to keep my hardiness up.
I am going to turn this thing around and hope that the publicity that such a thing brings, brings a little more money for the charities. I am going to make sure I am completely well, a hundred percent, better and stronger before I set off. Because, if I
don't watch it I could lose my toe or even my foot and I believe what I have been told about this.
I have to face facts, just as I had to when it was minus sixty on the trail. It is reality. It is a minor thing compared with the lives that have been lost in the cold recently, this year. I pray for these people and I will be continuing this run for them. More experienced people in terms of weather conditions than me that have been afflicted by frostbite and have died in these conditions. I have had so few injuries in the last two years. It is a terrific record. I put that down in a large part to the wonderful equipment that I have been using. There have been many times when my equipment has saved my life. I simply would not have survived the frostbite and the river if it were not for Peter
Hutchinson's PHD equipment and all the other fantastic kit that I have with me. So three cheers for my family and friends and suppliers.
I am grateful to be here and so very grateful to the National Guard and all the people who have helped me here as if I were family. Rosie xx
Here are some great photos sent to me by Christine
M. Nangle. Thanks so much to all at the National Guard, they have
been so kind to Rosie, they are really wonderful people.

Possibly the most famous toes in the world in the
world right now.

Roise being well tended to by National Guard
medics.
4/3/06 just a quick update I received from a good
friend of Rosie, She has been very busy lately and has been staying with
an Army person who has a great deal of experience in dealing with
frostbite. She is getting intensive treatment for her frostbitten
toes. She is a little disappointed that it will take longer than
expected for her to be able to resume her world run, look like it will
be about three weeks. She will be seeing the specialist again this
Tuesday for and update on her toe, at the moment it is still very swollen
and blistered and it takes time to assess the progress. Sorry this
is rather general I hope to have more detailed information soon.
Thanks to everyone trying out the new guest book. Regards James
3/3/6 Hi everyone, I hope to be specking to Mum
later on today but in the meantime I would like to announce a brand new
guest book feature for this website, where you can post comments and
leave messages.
It has been put together by Byron from Namehog ltd
www.namehog.net They are the web
hosting company that has been hosting Rosie's website for nearly three
years now free of charge, I would like to thank them all very much, I am very
grateful to them, really good service as well.
A big thank you for the many emails I am
getting from people expressing their admiration for Rosie's courage and
sending their best wishes to her.
2/3/6 I have started a new page for the new month,
for recent pictures and photos please click on the recent Feb 2006 news
link on the left.
While I am waiting for the latest update on Rosie,
I would like to say a bit about the Charities Rosie is supporting.
The are very worthy causes how are doing vital work. They are run
by good people who are utterly dedicated and very hard
working.
Also as many of you know, her late husband Clive
died of Prostate cancer, and this run is in his memory and to raise
awareness of the condition. As well as the personal achievement,
her aim is to raise as much money as possible for these good
causes. If you feel so inclined, I urge you to donate directly to
the Charities listed below. Many thanks James Swale.
