15th Jan 2007 Hi everyone, thought I would share a little bit of family news.  My sister Eve, gave birth of the 13th of January, to a little girl called Lucy, rather unexpectedly in the middle of the night. Baby and mother are doing extremely well and are back at home, the baby weighs 7 1/2 pounds. Rosie is delighted and has spoken Eve.    Regards James

Dearest Elaine Anne Ken, Just to say I am
thinking of you always. All well. I am passing thro
Weyburn - last night, the cart, with its brave
Mundare tent, sat all night in the open prairie in a
70mph gale....I slept soundly!. Tent barely
ruffled its pretty self. Please tell Ron that I
continue to be absolutely thrilled with his
handiwork. Lots of love, Rosie

Hi everyone, I hope everyone had a good Christmas and new year, and has fully recovered. The above message is from Rosie a few days ago.  Rosie had a little break over the Christmas period, parked up 'Silver' and visited some friends in Chicago, she had a very good Christmas and new year. She has flown back to where she left off and if continuing her journey. Weather conditions are very extreme at the moment but she's doing well. I hope to get some GPS positional fixes and more detailed news when I next speak to her.

Below is a wonderful e-mail I was sent by Carrie Keeping, Rosie had an absolutely fantastic time in Moose Jaw she was made so welcome and very well looked after by Carrie and her sister Patricia who runs the shop Pillow Talk Lingerie. Rosie was telling me about the wonderful stuff she was given by Patricia. Also about the great fund raiser in Rosie’s honor at Bobby’s Place, that when really well.

Regards James

Hello James,

My name is Carrie Keeping. I am Patricia’s sister (Pillow Talk Lingerie) from Moose Jaw. I was blessed to meet your incredible Mother. Since meeting Rosie not a single hour goes by that I do not think about her and where she is? How is she doing? I worry although I know she is much stronger than I could ever dream to be. And that is just a small part of what makes her so amazing. She really is an Angel at least the closest I have come to a real life angel. Patricia organized a fund raiser in Rosie’s honor at Bobby’s Place. This is a quaint little Irish pub in Moose Jaw. The fundraiser was a complete success. The capacity of the pub is 85 and there were 91 tickets sold. There was also a penny parade. A few local businesses donated items and sold tickets for a chance to win the prizes. The total raised was $627.47. Your Mother kindly donated these funds to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation for the Mammogram Unit at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital.

I must say that your Mom is the most incredible woman I have ever had the pleasure to meet. She spoke about how proud she was of you and your sister for all that you do for her. Of course refusing to take any credit herself for what she has accomplished. You and your sister must also find it difficult without Mom nearby to feel the love that permeates in one of her hugs. I truly admire Rosie and her family for the incredible sacrifices you people have made in the name of humanity and goodwill.

We know that Rosie is on her way to Chicago, it is our mission to get your Mom on the Oprah Show. There is a show title “Good News”, this show is about hearing good news rather than all the horrible things that plague our headlines. I think this is perfect for Rosie. I believe she needs to be honored globally. I feel the Oprah show would be a great way of getting Rosie’s spirit out there for all to experience. We will be trying to the best of our ability to send emails to the show and by phone and we will pray that her story gets Oprah’s attention. Just before your Mom left Moose Jaw my sister, nephew and myself enjoyed one last coffee before Rosie set off on her continuing journey. She spoke about the great job you do on the website and thought that it may get overwhelming at times with so much information.

Please accept my offer to help you with anything that would help you help your Mother. I visited the website the day my sister phoned me and told me about this amazing lady that walked into her boutique. Is there is anything you may need to help you with the web site? I am proficient with computers and much can be accomplished with such great technology today. I took the opportunity to take pictures and some video of the fundraiser including some of the people whose life; Rosie touched forever. Although I wanted to capture the spirit of this beautiful ladies dream to run around the world. I thought about her family and how proud they must be of her. And so I thought I would take as many photos I could and send them to her children. The video footage especially as it allows her children so much more than a still photo possibly could.

I am currently organizing the collection of photos and video along with the details of the fundraiser into a PowerPoint Presentation. I have been busy tagging the photos with titles and arranging the data in the appropriate slides! In a few days I should be completed! Today, I am sending pictures of my sister Patricia, her son Eric and myself with your Mom. Upon completion of my presentation, I will forward it on to you as well. I will be in touch again in short order. Enjoy the photos and please tell Rosie when you speak to her that we are thinking about her and her family! I must email Oprah now! It has been a wonderful start to a great new year. Happy New Year to you and your family!

Regards,

Carrie Keeping

10 of December 2006. Hi everyone I hope you are all well and in the Christmas spirit. This is a text I received from Rosie last week, the last time I spoke to her she was very focused to get to Regina her next objective which I estimate is about 130 miles away. As you all know she has come up against some very difficult whether conditions, I'm not quite sure what the weather is at the moment, but I am hoping that she able to make good progress and there is not too much wind.

Please have a read of the e-mail below that I was sent by Michael Myers who met Rosie in August, it is one of the most inspiring e-mails I have ever read concerning Rosie. And it reminded me of when I was visiting Rosie in Alaska this summer, I did not meet Michael while I was there, but he reminded me of many other truly inspiring people that I met during my visit to Alaska, who were following their dreams and their personal challenges, in this amazing place and traveling right across America and Canada by bike. Michael, I wish you and your father the very best. James

From Rosie

'I struggled through whiteout conditions, -30
temps and a mean 60 mph headwind most of the way
to Saskatoon. but it is one of the most friendly
and hospitable cities on earth. Every snowy
belaboured step was worth all the effort. Saskatoon's
motto is 'Saskatoon Shines'- and this is true in
all weathers because the huge warmth of welcome
belies the weather. I have amazing stories to
tell about my high adventures here. Will have to
recount them in next email - just want to check
this reaches you ok.
I am staying with Jim and Takako Travis who are

Hi James,

This may be old news now but I've been wanting to let Rosie know I am always thinking of her. I met Rosie towards the end of August, just passed the highest point on the Alaska Highway called "Summit Pass". I was on a bicycle tour from Alaska to Mexico to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis in which my father has.

For over a month of ups and downs riding the Alaska Highway, I have been asked countless times if I had met with a woman named "Rosie", who is running around the world. Needless to say I could not wait to finally catch up with this woman. Everyday I was getting a little closer as I would ask the locals if they had heard of or seen a woman name Rosie, who is pulling a trailer along the roadway. I know I was getting close. This night in late August I camped on the top of Summit Pass in Northern BC, as another camper told me he had seen her today just miles down the road. I couldn't wait till morning. Morning came with the sun shinning bright and I biked down the backside of the highest summit on the Alaska Highway with my eyes wide open.

As I biked around a small corner in the road I noticed a large cart on wheels and a tent on top. This must be her I said to myself. As I pedaled closer I saw a woman sitting on the ground beside the cart. Ringing my bike bell many times and yelling "Rosie, Rosie, Rosie" as if I had found a long lost friend. I had only heard of Rosie and never met her before this day but for some reason I felt I had. Her first words to me were "so you have heard of me". I sure did and away we were. Rosie invited me into her home, as she laid out her animal hide and told me to sit. I was so excited to met Rosie, and had so many questions to ask her, that time just flew by. Minutes, Hours, and even a few motorcycle men had stopped to talk with her.

We exchanged stories although I had only been on the bicycle for a little over a month, I did just have a bad experience prior to meeting her. A bear had attacked me in my tent while I was sleeping a few night before. Lucky for me my tent took the worst of it and I escaped unharmed. I found it funny that Rosie was making a big deal about my trip, which had just started, while she has been on the road for 3 plus years, walking. Rosie was downplaying her adventure as no biggie, but I wasn't buying it. To top it all off, Rosie reaches into her giant cart and comes out with some money. She says to me "it's not much but I want to give you this for your charity Multiple Sclerosis and I hope your father gets well". I told her I could not except her money but she would not hear it and refused to take it back.

I couldn't believe it. In a few short hours Rosie made such an impression on me that it was hard to say goodbye. Before going our separate ways I took a few photos of Rosie, and us together. Also I had ask her if I could try pulling her 3 wheeled cart at over 200 pounds. She buckled me into this backpack like harness and told me to pull. On the level ground it seemed to move ok but than she told me to try it up the hill over there in the bush. "No way" I said, as I wanted my bike back.

Meeting Rosie was truly an inspiration and the most incredible person I have ever met in my life. After only knowing Rosie for a few hours, hugs and kisses and best wishes were said. Away she went down the road with a massive load behind her, I watched until see went out of sight. I jumped on my loaded bicycle and pedaled off in the same direction. As I caught up and passed her I turned around and said "I' am going to miss you". She stopped running and blew kisses in my direction while waving goodbye. Miles down the road I say to myself " this is a day I won't soon forget.

Rosie - I wish you well, you are my hero!

4th of Dec 2006. Hi everyone, very pleased at long last to have my computer sorted. And get my e-mail working again. I spoke to Rosie today and she is in great spirits and has been receiving wonderful kindness and hospitality everywhere she has been. The whether it extremely cold getting down to -40 degrees f, she has also be troubled by extremely strong winds which when they are behind her make her feel like super woman until the wind changes direction. I and in the process of updating the web site. There is plenty more pictures and news to come so please watch this space.

A couple of other things, my apologies those porn links (please don't all rush there) in the guest book, I have miss laid the password details to sort it out. Also I hope to get to the bottom of why USA does not appear in the list of countries, I don't want you guys gals to feel left out. But as usual I have not really got a clue what I am doing, but I will get there in the end.

All my e-mail is working fine now, I have had to scrap outlook express, as I just could not get it to work. There is going to be bit of a delay before the e-mail notifications of web site updates are back up and running as I have transferred all the addresses into a new e-mail program.

Once again thank you all for your patience, and Rosie send her regards and thanks. I have the new messages from her that I shall be putting up shortly. Regards James

Hello James. I met your mum last night and today. I work at a running store called Brainsport and we were happy to have her join us last night for supper after our running club went out for their run. Rosie returned today and I helped her pick out some new runners and some other gear to help with her journey. What amazing energy and life force. Such a pleasure to meet. I will be keeping track of her on her website. Here are two pictures taken last night in our store. I'm in the front row of the group picture with the blue Brainsport jacket.
Your mum looks amazingly well despite her travels. I had a look at her feet while fitting her and not a blister! She is truly an inspiration! I told her I hope to live long enough to see what she does for her 100th birthday.
Best wishes to her and you too.

Hi James - pictures of Rosie including her bandaged hand which she says is healing well, her blackberry, the bear skin named "Aspen" which she wears over her shoulders and torso for warmth, the new 'covered wagon' design and tarp on Silver Dream Machine. We are still excited about tracking her down and having another chance to visit with her on her journey. Bev Jones

Hi, and doing a bit of catching up, the getting my e-mail sorted out. The photos are from when Rosie was in Chicago for the Chicago marathon some weeks back. Many thanks for the photos

James, Here are some "beauty" photos of Rosie in Chicago two weeks ago. She looked good. I do think that she enjoyed her pre-marathon R&R at Park Avenue Salon. Everyone enjoyed meeting her - she got the "royal treatment" - nails, pedicure and haircut. We were delighted to meet her and will always welcome her in our home. Best wishes, Nancy

24th of Nov 2006. Hi everyone, thank you all very much for your patience, it is going to be another week until my broadband gets connected. I have recently spoken to Rosie. She is battling on, with the weather getting very chilly. It is very tough going for her at the moment. But she is striving to make her 20 miles per day target.

She said that she is doing okay but finds it very hard to contact all the people she would like because she is so tired after running all day and dealing with her equipment and cooking that all she wants to do its flop down and sleep. She is able to make notes on her new electronic device when the batteries are working.

One correction she wanted me to make was that the Silver Dream Machine, was not hit by a car like I said in previous news. I was confused it was in fact ripped by severe weather, and was subsequently repaired by some very helpful people that she met.

As most people will know, Rosie's world run its self supported, with very kind sponsorship for her specialist survival equipment and her other needs.

Her run around the world, is dedicated to her late husband Clive, who sadly died of cancer. The fact that he might have lived if he had gone to the doctor sooner, motivated Rosie to have the Prostate Cancer Charity as one of the charities she was hoping to publicize and encourage donations to, with her run.

Of the other charities Rosie is hoping to raise the profile of, the The Kitezh Community for Orphan Children, it very close to her heart. She knows this Charity through her time in Russia and has seen first-hand the great work that they do.

Since Rosie has adopted The Hole in the Wall Gang Fund for children with cancer, she is concerned that people might think she has abandoned the cause of the Kitezh Community, this is not at all the case, as they are very dear to her, and she is working very hard for them.

If you would like to find that more please click on the charities supported link on the left.

11th Nov, Hi everyone, my apologies for the news blackout, I know a lot of people have been quite worried about Rosie because of the lack of news. There has been a few dramas lately, the Silver Dream Machine, was ripped in bad whether, also Rosie has cut her hand quite badly opening a food packet with a knife. With the help of some very nice people she had managed to improvise a new tent covering and have her hand patched up. After running the Chicago marathon she traveled back to Canada to the spot she left off from, and is continuing her world run across Canada and America back to the UK.

I spoke to Rosie yesterday and she said her biggest concern is with the cold it has been minus 20 degrees F. when she got fast bite last time it was only -10 degrees, it is bit of a crossover point as she is waiting to pick up her cold weather gear which has been stored during the summer. She said her hand is healing up well and she is managing to make good progress. He is a message that she sent through on her new BlackBerry device

'The coyotes were calling to each other last
night. The stars were bright above a prairie
landscape that is wide as the horizons are at sea. I'm
running along highway 16 en route to Saskatoon..
Either side of road are large farms like islands
amid the grasslands and beyond them is wilderness.
It is a huge contrast to how isolated I was in
Siberia and Alaska, but some things remain the
same. At night sleeping in the open I am part of the
secret world of the foxes and coyotes, the birds.
I still feel closer to these creatures, my
friends in the wilds than to anything'. Love Rosie

I feel I should explain that I have not been very well recently and have had some frustrating problems with the computer. The situation is at the moment I still cannot get my e-mail to work. My computer is freezing up after 15 to 20 minutes of use. I have been on dial-up ever since my broadband provider went out of business.

I'm also having problems with RS I. I am finding it demoralizing because every day I am being rude to countless people by basically ignoring their e-mails. My computer is so frustrating use at the moment. The things that is causing the problems is using the mouse. And because everything is awkward and slow with the dial-up it is making things particularly difficult.

I hope things will improve soon as I have a new computer to upgrade my old one waiting in the wings, I have signed up for a new broadband provider and should be connected by the 26th of November. When I transferred to my new computer hopefully my e-mail will be back in action. Apologies again for all the e-mails that have gone unanswered.

What I can do though it is get messages from Rosie herself direct, normally I would be putting up a a lot of pictures and e-mails sent in by people who have met Rosie or Rosie has stayed with. I can't really do that until I get my broadband back working. But I will have direct news from Rosie. Also my e-mailing of news updates is still out of action for the moment. Regards James
