Hi Rosie It was so fantastic to read your latest travel report. Grace with Nuuk Tourism has my gratitude as she has done a tremendous job both on the website and here in your guest book keeping the rest of us around the world feeling as if we were actually there sharing in your adventures. Your descriptions of the warm, caring people of Greenland and their wonderful rugged country are so seductive that they make me want to personally visit there. I do hope you are able to get your flight to Iceland on Monday. I wanted you and others to know we share your story with everyone we encounter and invite them to join us on your website to learn more about you and the amazing "Rosie Story". As always our thoughts and prayers are with you. |

Rosie, you are incredible! I have been reading Colin Angus' book, Beyond the Horizon, and when he described your brief meeting in Siberia I quickly had to run to the computer to see if you had a website going. This is really the neatest thing - for a woman your age to be running around the entire world - I have become an instant admirer! I'm 17 and a student in Vancouver, Canada, about to pursue a degree in environmental studies. Reading about your adventures on this site has been immensely inspirational. I hope to do some human-powered travelling myself sometime in the future. This must be a most fantastic experience for you, and I sincerely hope that you enjoy the remaining quarter of your journey to the fullest extent! Good luck!! |

Hi, talked with Rosie this morning. Her flight to Iceland has been cancelled due to bad weather in the region. It wasn't totally unexpected. The weather reports for both Greenland and Iceland in that region were not encouraging. Air Iceland will make a new attempt on Monday. In Greenland having to wait for days to get a flight out is nothing new. It happend all the time years back when Air Greenland only had helicopters. Now with fixed winged aircraft it's mostly the more remote areas that see delays lasting for days. The first Greenlandic word most visitors to Greenland learn, is the word 'immaqa' (pronounced eemmakra, the q actually has a more guttural sound than the English k). it means 'maybe', because in Greenland everything is dependant upon the weather. It is of course a let down, as Rosie very much would like to be on her way, but she is using her time well with her writing. I read the mesages in the guestbook to her, that I know she didnt see while she was here in Nuuk. Rosie espcially wants to send her love to the children in St. Stephens, NB. She was telling me what a great time she had there visiting them. It is not too cold in Kulusuk, but tons of snow. Rosie says the snowbanks along the road from the hotel to the airport are something like twice her height. She was planning on going for a run. Claims she is getting "fat & lazy" on all the food she is getting at the hotel. Rosie felt so full one day, from the breakfast and the lunch meal, that she decided to skip the evening meal, only to find hotel staff knocking on her door to enquire, if she was all right when she didnt show for dinner! :-) |

Talked with Rosie a little while ago. Still in Kulusuk but enjoying herself and getting on with her writing. Rosie says she has been inquiring about the Ice cap and about crossing it. She has been given good information and now seems more determined than ever to come back to Greenland at some point to cross the Ice Cap. If all goes according to schdule, i.e. weather permitting, Rosie should be heading for Iceland tomorrow. Rosie should be glad she isn't in Nuuk. After she left, temps here dropped down to -24 Celsius about -8 Fahrenheit. It's been several years since its been this cold in Nuuk. I will be talking with Rosie again tonight, so I'll pass on any messages that are on the guestbook she hasen't seen. :-) Greetings from the largest island in the world. :-) |

Hi, called Rosie this morning to see how she is doing in Kulusuk. She is staying at Hotel Kulusuk in East Greenland. Since it is a public place I think it's okay to list the phone number here in case anybody wishes to give Rosie a call. The number is +299 98 69 93. I don't know how good their English is at the Hotel so just ask for "British lady - Rosie". Trust me, she is the only one there at this time of year. lol The fax number for the hotel is +299 98 69 83. I don't know about their internet connections and email, but I'll check it out. Rosie told me that Icebird is now in Iceland awaiting custom clearence. Rosie herself is fine. She is enjoying the hotel and the free meals (Air Greenland pays room and board when they happen to strand people) and plans on writing cards, her journal and checking out her surroundings. She may have an opportunity to go dogsleding. She sends much love to everyone and wanted me to be sure that I conveyed her sincere thanks to everyone who has helped her along on this journey. I will be speaking to Rosie tomorrow and I'll keep everybody updated here on the guestbook. :-) |

I just talked to Rosie a little while ago. She called and wanted to let you know that she is doing fine on the East Coast. Internet access is sparse so she doesnt expect to be online much while on the East Coast. She may call me again with further up dates during the coming days. I have told her that i would be happy to post any messages she may wish to convey. Air Greenland has put her, and other guests who missed the flight to Iceland, up in a hotel for free. Rosie says she has met some lovely people and she feels very well cared for. Rosie also says it's a little warmer in Kulusuk than it was in Nuuk, but the snow is piled high. She plans to explore the surrounding area in the coming days. |

Greetings from Greenland. Rosie left Nuuk around noon today and is now in Kulusuk, East Greenland. Her flight from Nuuk got delayed and she missed the Air Iceland flight to Reykjavik from Kulusuk. The next scheduled flight to Reykjavik, Iceland is on Saturday so Rosie will now have an opportunity to explore a bit of East Greenland before she continues on with her journey. :-) I talked with Rosie on the phone less than an hour ago. The flight had been great, visibility good, so Rosie got a good look at the Ice Cap. She is now very determind at some time in the future to cross it from coast to coast. I have written an account of Rosies visit to Nuuk, however unfortunately the guest book refused to post it, saying my post was too long. I have therefore mailed my account to Rosies son, James in the hopes that it may go up on the web site for general reading. |
